Martin teaches Hatha Flow Yoga which via a series of postures, internal dynamics and breathing techniques, encourages a deeper understanding and control of the physical body. This process of enquiry, adjustment and acceptance brings about a spontaneous shift in the way that we think about the body and how we use it.

The physical practice, concentration, awareness and graceful expression of yoga posture brings together disparate elements of our being and expresses them harmoniously. This articulation systematically releases layers of tension and generates a calming and uplifting sense of well being.

For the beginner, there is a balanced introduction to the benefits of specific yoga techniques and for the more experienced, an anatomical focus to help build on the stunning simplicity of this practice.

All classes are 90 minutes long and some yoga mats are available (although it's best to bring your own), blocks and belts are provided. Spaces are limited so please come at least 10 minutes early with an empty tummy and an open mind!

 

Spring 2008 Classes (Easter Term)

Mondays
Downing College 7.00pm - 8.30pm

Monday's class is at Downing College starting 14th April in either The Howerd Building or The Party Room (please ask at The Porter's Lodge) with a series of classes covering; stability, energy, breathing, movement, internal dynamic and external expression. Primarily aimed at beginners and those wishing to develop their own practice, priority will be given to Downing members although drop in places are always available. location map

Tuesdays
Wolfson College 6.15pm - 7.45pm
The highlight of the week! Yoga at Wolfson College takes place in either Lee Hall or the Seminar Room (please ask at The Porter's Lodge). You will be joining an established group of mixed abilities but beginners are always welcome. Whilst the format of each class is similar with systematic stretching, meditative awareness, vinyasa flow sequences and classic yoga postures, the focus changes each week to bring a fresh perspective to our practice. Classes will run from Tuesday 15th April and run throughout the year. Cost £5. location map

Wednesdays
Newnham College 6.30pm - 8.00pm
Wednesday's class is organised by The Cambridge University Yoga Society but it is also open to non students. The venue is The Jane Harrison Room at Newnham College. There are 8 classes during the term starting on Wednesday 23rd April, the last class being on Wednesday 11th June. These classes are mainly for beginners but are challenging enough for those with an established practice. The classes are usually over subscribed but great fun with an emphasis on enjoying yoga as a route to self discovery. location map

Thursdays
St John's College 6.00pm and 9.00pm
There are 2 classes on Thursday organised by The St John's Women's Society starting on Thursday 24th April. These classes are open to members of the College (and others by prior arrangement - please email address below). Although mainly aimed at beginners they will be challenging enough for those with an established practice. The 2 one-hour sessions are at 6pm and 9pm in the School of Pythagorus. location map

Fridays
Emmanuel College 5pm

A series of 4 'Positive Relaxation' classes have been arranged in the run up to exams starting on Friday 9th May and ending Friday 30th May. These classes will equip students with a basic toolkit of yoga stretches to relieve physical tension and some relaxation techniques to calm the mind. Priority is given to Emmanuel students. location map

 

Sundays
Magdalene College 3.15pm - 4.30pm

A series of 5 'Positive Relaxation' classes have been arranged in the run up to exams starting on Sunday 4th May with the last class on Sunday 1st June. These classes will equip students with a basic toolkit of yoga stretches to relieve physical tension and some relaxation techniques to calm the mind. Priority is given to Magdalene students. location map

Fitzwilliam College 5.30pm - 7.00pm
Sunday's class is organised by The Cambridge University Yoga Society. There are 9 classes during the term starting on Sunday 27th April and ending on Sunday 15th June. You do not have to be a member or a student to attend. Classes are held in The Reddaway Room and you are best to approach from the Storey's Way Porters Lodge although you can ring the buzzer on the Huntingdon Road side of the college and gain entrance this way. These classes are mainly for beginners but are challenging enough for those with an established practice. The Reddaway Room is quite large and can accommodate up to 30 students but it's still best to arrive 10 minutes early to secure a place. To find out more go to the CUYS website.
